Terms of Use

The rules for using Lens, including professional use, Content Credentials, subscriptions, and third party features.

Quick read

By using Lens you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. Lens is a professional documentation tool. You are responsible for checking your own work before you share it. Apple's EULA also applies to iOS users where it conflicts with these terms.

Terms at a glance

These cards summarize the agreement. They do not replace the full legal text below.

Your responsibility

You must verify measurements, reports, and any data you share. Lens is not certified surveying or engineering equipment.

Content Credentials

Credentials show a file was not changed since capture. You are responsible for what happens after you export or share a file.

Third party features

Offline Maps, AI reports, and similar features follow third party terms when you enable them.

Payments and governing law

Subscriptions and refunds go through Apple. These terms are governed by the laws of the Philippines.

Everything below is the complete legal text, last updated July 12, 2026.

1. Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Lens ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

Note to Apple Users: These Terms supplement, but do not replace, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA). In the event of a conflict, the Apple EULA governs for iOS users. The App is available via the Apple App Store; use may also be subject to Apple's Media Services Terms where applicable.

2. The "Liability Moat": Acknowledgments & Disclaimers

A. Professional Use Only

Lens is a tool for documentation and reporting. While we strive for accuracy, you are solely responsible for the verification of any data, measurements, or reports generated by the App. The App is not a substitute for certified surveying equipment or professional engineering judgment.

Content Credentials (C2PA) Disclaimer:

  • Content Credentials provide cryptographic proof of origin and integrity.
  • Current Status: Preview (Production Certificate Pending): Lens is C2PA conformant at Max Assurance Level 1 (confirmed by the C2PA Conformance Program). Lens uses self-signed certificates with Apple Secure Enclave hardware binding while our Certificate Authority partner, SSL.com, completes issuance of our production certificate. Third-party verification tools may display "Unrecognized Signer" warnings until that certificate is issued and onboarded to the C2PA Trust List.
  • C2PA v2.2 Compliance: Lens implements Content Credentials in compliance with the C2PA Technical Specification v2.2, UX Recommendations v2.2, and Security Considerations v2.2, including all applicable security controls for a hardware-backed Generator.
  • What this means: The cryptographic integrity of your signed media is fully valid, and our manifest implementation has been formally verified conformant. The "Unrecognized" warning relates only to identity / trust list recognition via our production certificate, not file integrity or conformance status. Once our production certificate is issued, Content Credentials will show as "Trusted Signer" in verification tools.
  • Your Responsibility: You are responsible for the chain of custody after export. Content Credentials prove the file has not been altered since capture, but cannot prevent intentional misuse of authentic media. Check your work at the official verify.contentauthenticity.org validator.
  • Data Persistence: If you choose to store signed media in iCloud Drive or a Custom Folder, you are responsible for the manual deletion and management of these files. These persistent locations are independent of the Lens application and will not be removed if the app is uninstalled.

B. AI-Generated Content

The App utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to generate text descriptions and summaries.

  • Accuracy: AI can hallucinate or make errors. You must review all AI-generated content before sharing or relying on it.
  • Ownership: As between you and us, you own the reports you create. We claim no ownership over your specific output.

C. Map Data & Third-Party Services

Default: The App uses Apple Maps for standard map displays, which operates within Apple's ecosystem without additional third-party data sharing.

Offline Maps (Opt-In Only): If you choose to enable the Offline Maps feature, map tiles are provided by © Mapbox and © OpenStreetMap.

  • Consent Required: You will be asked for explicit consent before Mapbox is activated. You can revoke consent at any time in Settings → Offline Maps → Disable.
  • Data Sharing: When enabled, Mapbox receives IP address, device information, and approximate location data. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.
  • License: OpenStreetMap data is available under the Open Database License.
  • Improvement: You can help improve the map data here: Improve this map.
  • Terms: By enabling Offline Maps, you agree to comply with Mapbox's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

D. No Warranties ("AS IS")

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE APP WILL BE BUG-FREE OR THAT DATA WILL NEVER BE LOST.

3. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree strictly NOT to use the App to:

  1. Upload or generate content that is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, or sexually explicit.
  2. Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App.
  3. Use the AI features to generate spam, misinformation, or legally privileged documents without verification.

Violation of these terms may result in the immediate termination of your access to specific features.

4. Subscriptions & Payments

  • Apple Processing: All payments, subscriptions, and refunds are handled directly by Apple via your iTunes/App Store account. We do not store your credit card information.
  • Cancellations: You must cancel subscriptions via your iOS Settings at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged.
  • Refunds: We cannot process refunds directly. Please contact Apple Support for any billing issues.

A. Lens Trust Founding Member Deposit

A.1 What the Deposit Is

The "Lens Trust Founding Member" offering is a one-time reservation fee (the "Deposit") paid via In-App Purchase. The Deposit reserves your place on the waitlist for Lens Trust, a future subscription tier that will provide CA-signed Content Credentials and trusted timestamps. Payment is processed by Apple; we do not store your payment details.

A.2 No Guarantee of Launch — Launch Target & Decision Date

Lens Trust will launch only if we reach sufficient reservation interest and complete the required infrastructure. We do not guarantee that Lens Trust will launch or by any specific date.

We may communicate a launch target (e.g. a quarter or year) or a Decision Date by which we will either launch Lens Trust or confirm we are not launching. Any such date is aspirational only and not a guarantee. The Decision Date for refund eligibility is: December 31, 2026. If we have not launched Lens Trust by the Decision Date, or if we earlier confirm in the app or by email that we will not launch Lens Trust, the Deposit is eligible for a full refund as described in A.3. We may extend the Decision Date; if we do, we will communicate the new date in the app or by email.

A.3 Refund If We Do Not Launch (Time-Bound)

If we do not launch Lens Trust by the Decision Date (see A.2), or if we earlier confirm that we will not launch Lens Trust, you may request a full refund of the Deposit. Refunds are processed by Apple, not by us. To request a refund:

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Select the Lens app and the "Lens Trust Founding Member" purchase.
  4. Choose "Request a refund" and follow Apple's instructions.

We will not dispute eligible refund requests for the Deposit when Lens Trust has not launched by the Decision Date (or when we have earlier confirmed we will not launch). Refund eligibility and approval are determined by Apple in accordance with their policies and your region.

A.4 If We Launch Lens Trust

If we do launch Lens Trust, you will be notified in the app when Lens Trust is available. You may then subscribe at the then-current Lens Trust yearly price ($249/year as of July 2026). The Deposit does not automatically subscribe you and does not lock in a lower price unless we communicate a separate offer at launch. The Deposit remains refundable until you subscribe to Lens Trust, except as required by law.

A.5 Cancellation Before Launch

If you change your mind before we launch Lens Trust (including before the Decision Date), you may request a refund through Apple as described in A.3. We will not dispute such requests.

B. Free app trial

Lens may offer a time-limited free trial of app features (including a capped number of AI-generated reports) before you subscribe. Trial terms:

  • Duration and limits: The trial is 14 days unless we communicate a different grandfathered period for your install. AI report generation during the trial is limited (currently 14 reports); see in-app messaging for your remaining allowance.
  • Device-based eligibility: When our server trial registry is enabled, trial eligibility is tracked per device using Apple's DeviceCheck and a server-side record (see our Privacy Policy §2.E). One trial per device for the promotional period—we do not grant a new trial on the same device after the server records the trial as expired, including if you delete and reinstall the app or sign in with a different Apple ID on that device.
  • Online setup: First use of the trial may require a brief internet connection to confirm eligibility. If you are offline before a successful sync, trial access may be unavailable until you connect.
  • After the trial: When the trial ends, paid features require a Lens Pro or other subscription (or applicable purchase) through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Trial expiration does not automatically charge you; any subscription is separate and governed by Apple.
  • Changes: We may modify trial length, included features, or registry behavior with notice as required by law or via in-app messaging / App Store release notes.

C. Trusted Timestamps and Fair Use Limits

Lens Trust puts a fair use limit on trusted timestamps (RFC 3161 signing). The limit is set high enough for normal documentation work. The app lets you know if you reach it, under Settings, then Trusted Timestamps.

If you reach the limit, Lens keeps signing your photos and videos with Content Credentials. It uses your device's clock instead of a trusted timestamp. Trusted timestamps start again on their own once the limit resets. Reaching this limit never stops you from capturing and signing photos and videos.

5. User Content & Feedback

  • Your Content: You retain copyright over the photos and reports you create.
  • Feedback: If you send us ideas, bug reports, or suggestions ("Feedback"), you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use that Feedback to improve the App without compensation to you.

6. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE APP SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE PAST SIX (6) MONTHS (IF ANY).

7. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Philippines, excluding its conflict of law rules.
