Payments and governing law

Subscriptions and refunds go through Apple. Philippine law governs these terms and the websites, and disputes go to the courts of Batangas City after a 30-day attempt to resolve them. Apple's EULA has its own terms for the app. Consumers keep the rights their local law gives them.

1. How These Terms Work

The Lens iOS app ("the App") is licensed to you under Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement ("Apple's EULA"). Apple's EULA covers the App and the services you use through it.

These Terms add the rules that are specific to Lens. They also cover lensproof.app and Lens Proof Check at check.lensproof.app (together, "the Websites"). Fieldnotes dot Dev Opc ("we", "us"), a One Person Corporation registered in the Philippines, provides the App and the Websites.

By using the App or the Websites, you agree to Apple's EULA (for the App), these Terms, and our Privacy Policy. If these Terms conflict with Apple's EULA about the App, Apple's EULA applies.

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you need permission from a parent or guardian.

2. Your Responsibilities

  • Check your work: Lens is a documentation tool. It is not certified surveying or engineering equipment. You must verify measurements, reports, and data before you rely on them or share them.
  • AI content: AI features in the App are off until you turn them on. When they are on, the App sends selected photos and report details to the AI provider you choose, Anthropic (Claude) or Google (Gemini), as described in the Privacy Policy. AI captions, summaries, report text, and Explain Credentials can make errors. Review AI output before you share it or rely on it.
  • Content Credentials: Content Credentials show whether a signed file changed after it was signed. They do not prove that what the file shows is true, and they cannot stop misuse of authentic media. You are responsible for files after you export or share them. Some validators show "Unrecognized Signer" for older files. This is about signer recognition, not file integrity. For our current C2PA conformance status, see the Content Credentials page.
  • Your storage: Signed files that you save to iCloud Drive or a custom folder stay there when you delete the App. You manage and delete them.
  • Acceptable use: Do not use the App or the Websites to break the law, infringe other people's rights, or mislead people about where media came from. Do not attack, overload, or bypass our security, rate limits, trial checks, or subscription checks.

3. Subscriptions, Trial, and Lens Trust

  • Payments: Apple handles all payments, subscriptions, cancellations, and refunds through your Apple Account. To avoid the next charge, cancel in your Apple Account settings at least 24 hours before renewal. The App Store shows current prices in your region.
  • Free trial: You get one free trial of Lens Core per device. The App shows the trial length. AI photo captions, executive summaries, and organize by activity require Lens Pro or Lens Trust. When our trial registry is enabled, we track eligibility per device with Apple DeviceCheck (see Privacy Policy Section 2.E). Deleting and reinstalling the App, or using a different Apple Account, does not start a new trial. The first use of the trial can need an internet connection. The trial does not charge you when it ends.
  • Lens Trust availability: Lens Trust relies on third-party certificate and timestamp services. These can change or be unavailable at times. If a timestamp service is unavailable, Lens signs without a trusted timestamp rather than blocking capture.
  • Trusted timestamp limit: Lens Trust has a fair use limit on trusted timestamps, set high enough for normal documentation work. The App tells you when you reach it (Settings → Trusted Timestamps). Lens then signs with your device clock until the limit resets. You can always capture and sign.

4. Third-Party Services

Offline Maps is optional. If you turn it on, map tiles come from © Mapbox and © OpenStreetMap, and you agree to Mapbox's Terms of Service. OpenStreetMap data is available under the Open Database License. Other services that Lens uses, such as Apple, Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), timestamp and certificate authorities, and Content Credentials validators, have their own terms. We do not control these services and are not responsible for them.

5. Your Content, Our Content, and Feedback

You keep ownership of your photos, videos, and reports. We own the App, the Websites, and the Lens name and logo. If you send us ideas or suggestions, you give us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use them for any purpose without paying you.

6. Websites and Lens Proof Check

Lens Proof Check shows what a file's Content Credentials say and whether they validate. A result is information, not a legal opinion or a certification of the content. Do not use it as the only basis for a legal, financial, insurance, or safety decision. You must have the right to check any file that you open with it.

7. Disclaimers and Liability

For the App, the warranty disclaimer and liability limit in Apple's EULA apply.

THE WEBSITES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, LOST PROFITS, OR LOST DATA, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY UNDER THESE TERMS AND FOR THE WEBSITES IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE SIX (6) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT THAT CAUSED THE CLAIM (IF ANY).

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, or your rights under the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country.

8. Changes and Termination

We may change or stop any feature of the App or the Websites, including trial limits and Lens Trust features. We may suspend your access if you break these Terms. We may also update these Terms. When we do, we change the "Last Updated" date. We announce material changes in the App, in the App Store "What's New" text, or on lensproof.app before they take effect.

9. Governing Law and Disputes

Philippine law governs these Terms and your use of the Websites. Before you file a claim, send us a written notice that describes the dispute. We both agree to try to resolve it in good faith within 30 days. If we cannot, the proper courts of Batangas City, Philippines decide the dispute. If you are a consumer, you keep any right your local law gives you to bring a claim in your local courts. Apple's EULA has its own governing law clause for the App.
